What is a flash sale?

A flash sale is simply a short-term online sale.  The sale is usually 10-50% off and lasts a day to a week.  The benefit to consumers is a steady stream of information on new products and a discount on each purchase.  The benefit to the seller is instant access to all members or visitors to the flash sale website.  It most cases it has proven to increase brand recognition and provide a bump in sale volumes.

What is our first [...]]]> AgSimple has set a launch date! Thank you to all of our farmer members and all of our merchants that have made this a reality. On Monday morning February 6 2012, AgSimple will launch its e-commerce website for its farmer members to get deals on new farm gear, products, and technology.

Now to get into the specifics.  Technically we are doing a soft launch on Jan 30, but the first week will be used to work out any hidden problems with the system.  After that, full launch will take place on the first Monday in Feb.  Thanks again to all those that have helped us get to this point!

Although we have had Illinois regions on the location-based website for several weeks, we are announcing now in preparation of our soft-launch in January.

The common question I get is why have a location-based system for ag technology in counties in Illinois that are clearly dominated by the metropolis of Chicago, where there are zero farmers? My first answer is always, half joking, because it makes the maps look better. My second answer, a bit more serious, is there are some farms in the outer suburbs that are still clinging to increasingly valuable farmland that is still in production. How long they will maintain their grip will be interesting to guess (when you can sell land at $50,000 an acre or more, I understand the dilemma). Also, we don’t know where AgSimple will take us, and in the future, we may be marketing and selling some sort of farm or rural technology that is more applicable to our Chicagoland friends. But, again, it does make the maps look better to include the counties that make up Chicago.
